Joyce A. Hemmer
Joyce A. Hemmer’s litigation practice focuses on consumer/commercial claims and insurance defense, including professional liability, product liability, auto accidents, premises liability and construction defects. She also handles contract disputes and insurance coverage matters. She joined Elam & Burke in 2019 and became a shareholder in 2021.
Before entering private practice in 2006, Joyce served as law clerk for Idaho District Judge Joel D. Horton in Ada County. While studying at William & Mary Law School, she was a summer law clerk to U.S. District Judge Richard L. Voorhees in North Carolina, extern for the Virginia Court of Appeals Chief Staff Attorney, and Articles Editor for the William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review. With a degree in journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill, she excels in legal writing and enjoys putting her skills to work for her clients.
Joyce shares her life outside the practice of law with her husband Casey (an Idaho native and also a lawyer), young children Eli and Emily, and two big dogs. She enjoys family camping trips, hiking, outdoor concerts, good coffee, and owning books and occasionally reading them.
