Lanice L. Smolar focuses her practice on general liability defense. With a background in insurance defense, she brings a wealth of experience to Elam’s litigation team. Lanice is known for her thorough approach, detailed communication, and commitment to clients.
Originally from Mobile, Alabama, Lanice pursued her legal education at Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, earning her Juris Doctor in 2012. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Faulkner University. Her legal career began in Florida, where she practiced law after law school. In 2015, she returned to Mobile and further expanded her practice before relocating to Boise, Idaho in 2024.
Lanice’s career is marked by a diverse range of legal experiences. Most recently, Lanice handled high-volume general liability defense cases, including trucking, UM/UIM, premises liability, and auto accidents. She developed strategies and arguments for presenting cases, researched and wrote motions and briefs, conducted and defended depositions, and handled mediations. She previously represented employer/carrier interests in workers’ compensation claims, where she prepared cases for trial, conducted extensive discovery, and managed files with the goal of cost-effective resolutions. Lanice’s ability to formulate discovery plans and prepare matters for trial has been a hallmark of her practice. Earlier in her career, she gained valuable experience in bankruptcy law and family law, although her current focus is firmly on general liability defense.
Lanice and her husband enjoy raising their four children and taking the family dogs hiking and camping amidst Boise’s stunning landscapes.
